Kind Co. Favorites: Corporate Social Responsibility
We love everything about companies that not only talk the talk, but also live up to those standards through corporate social responsibility. Yes, please!
What is it?
Corporate social responsibility may sound like jargon – we promise you, it’s not. Simply put, it’s a standard that companies (usually larger corporations, although smaller ones are recognizing the importance) abide by when it comes to employee welfare, community development, environmental sustainability and human rights. Winston Churchill famously said, “we make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give,” and companies who commit to corporate social responsibility are always a Kind Co. favorite.
Why you’ll love it
If you’re reading this, then you are a consumer who cares about where your purchase comes from. Andrew Miller, a creative brand strategist, told Huffington Post recently, “We live in a customer-centric and highly connected world where consumers not only want to feel good about their purchase, but also want to make use of social media to share the story behind the purchase. Having social purpose and a core message that resonates with your audience can be a key business differentiator.” The more we support companies with social responsibility as a focus, the more change can happen through business.
How it has made a difference
A triple bottom line is now a recognized thing in business. Business objectives that benefit society are often called the triple bottom line, which are social, environmental and economic impact. And as this practice grows and spreads to more and more companies, consumers will demand that their policies should benefit all society. A 2015 Nielsen survey showed the effect this has already had on business, 66 percent of online consumers said they would pay more for products or services from companies that are socially and environmentally responsible. Here’s the good news for fans of companies doing good, behavioral trends show the movement will just keep growing! Here, here!
